McDowell, 78, of 105 Charles St., Hooversville, died May 10, 1987, at Somerset Community Hospital. He was born Feb. 14, 1909, in Wabash, W.Va., son of the late Alexander and Mariah (McNemar) McDowell. Also preceded by granddaughter, Nancy Gardner; three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Ercell Smith; and these children: Mrs. James (Doris) Gardner of Fredericksburg, Va.; Mrs. Fred (Dora) Fullum, Melda McDowell and Sharon Prentice, all of Hollywood, Fla.; Thomas D., married to Jeanne Barbalish of Hooversville; and Mrs. Dan (Karleen) Pritts of Cooper City, Fla. Also 10 grandchildren. He was a brother of Mrs. Lillian Moore of Belington, W.Va. He was a custodian at the Kantner School of North Star School District for 26 years. World War II Navy veteran. Member of: Hooversville United Methodist Church, served as secretary/treasurer for many years; Hooversville VFW, where he was secretary for 30 years. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville. Remains will be removed to Hooversville United Methodist Church for viewing from noon until services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Revs. Ed and Brenda Fritz. Interment, P.O.S. of A.
