McEwen of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Wednesday night, Jan. 24, in a Wichita hospital where she had been a patient for two and a half months, becoming seriously ill the last week. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Asa F. Ferry officiating. Mrs. McEwen, the former Bernice Beachy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus M. Beachy, and wife of John McEwen, president of the Steffen Ice and Ice Cream company, was a prominent Wichita civic leader, an active worker in the Red Cross, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Wesley Hospital board and of the Wichita Country Club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by a daughter, Ellen, a student at Harland Hall, Tulsa, Okla.; a son, Cpl. Owen McEwen, who is with the army in India; a cousin, Mrs. Phil Purdum of Wichita, and two aunts, Mrs. Mary O. Cook and Kate Olinger of Meyersdale. Mrs. McEwen accompanied by her husband, paid her last visit to her aunts here last October. Meyersdale Republican, February 1, 1945
