All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ----------------------------------------------- MCGEE, Merle Allen 01/23/06 Daily American Merle Allen McGee, 77, Greenville, S.C., husband of Bobbie Gail Leslie McGee, being a firm believer of our Lord Jesus Christ, stepped into eternity to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2006. Born Sept. 14, 1928, in Berlin, he is the son of the late David McGee and Orpha Flamm McGee House. Surviving in addition to his wife of 50 years are two sons, Leslie Allen McGee and his wife of Easley, and David Jay McGee of the home; two daughters, Joyce Anne Kircher and husband of Beaufort, S.C., and Crystal Lynette Leschak of Aiken, S.C.; nine grandchildren: Lindsay and Tyler McGee, Megan and Zach Long, Morgan and Malone Leschak, Jeffrey, Brandon and Tyler Kircher. He served his country for 23 years in the USAF. He entered the service in 1946 and retired in 1969. During his military career, he was stationed a Donaldson AFB, Greenville, S.C.; Oxnard, Calif.; Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Aleutian Islands; Johnson Islands Greenland; Italy and combat in Vietnam. Throughout this time he was awarded numerous decorations and commendations. After retiring from the USAF, he was employed by Piedmont Natural Gas for 15 years. Mr. McGee was an avid Revolutionary War historian. He has numerous artifacts on display at Ninety Six National Park, where he served as a volunteer. He also was a contributing member of the Berlin Historical Society. He was contacted by many authors for consultation of historical documents along with the validation of Revolutionary War engagements. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the IOOF Cemetery, Berlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society of Greenville, 328 Furman Hall Road, Greenville, SC 29609. The family is at the residence. Arrangements by Deaner Funeral Home.
