McKENZIE William Herbert McKenzie of McKenzie Hollow, Greenville Township, died at his home at 3:15 a.m., on April 27 of silicosis. He had been ill for a long time, and bedfast most of the time for the last six months. He was a fire clay miner for the Union Mining Co. at Mt. Savage, Md. for 35 years, and had retired about 10 years ago. His wife, the former Bertha Johnson, is very ill at the present time, and was unable to attend the funeral. Mr. McKenzie was born, and lived all his life near where he died. He was a son of Francis and Leanna (Warner) McKenzie and was 70 years, 5 months and 13 days old at his death, having been born on November 14, 1874. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Elzie, at home; Frank, McKenzie Hollow, and Eugene, in the Army overseas; one daughter, Pearl, wife of Ellis Sturtz, of Meyersdale; a stepdaughter, Sarah, wife of Ellis Knepp, of Sand Patch; a stepson, Elmer Caton, of Boynton; one sister, Mrs. Etta Bolden, of Meyersdale; and four brothers, Francis, Pennsboro, W.Va.; Thomas and Joseph of Frostburg, and Lewis, of Kennells Mill, Pa. Mr. McKenzie was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Mary's Church near Pocahontas. Mass was conducted for him on Monday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Dravetsky of West Salisbury. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery, in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, May 3, 1945
