McQuade, 85, Berlin, died Dec. 29, 2000 at Somerset Hospital. Born Feb. 10, 1915, in Berlin, son of William and Maude (Haupt) McQuade. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Florentine Shaffer, Dorothy Hedlund, Frances Klingernhagen and Emma G. McQuade; and a brother, John A. Survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Anna Moore; daughter Nancy L., married to James Garvey, Fairhope; granddaughter, Michele, married to Frank James, Brothersvalley Township; and great-grandsons, Jason Addair and Connor James, both at home. Former coal miner and former custodian at Berlin-Brothersvalley High School, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Member of Berlin Brethren Church; Berlin VFW, Robert Walker Post 7295, and Disabled American Veterans of Pennsylvania, Chapter 127. U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 9th Division, 39th Regiment Infantry and was wounded crossing the Rhine River. He was awarded the Purple Heart and an oak leaf cluster and the Bronze Star. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, and from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Berlin Brethren Church. Rev. Owen Preston, Rev. Robert Hoffman and Rev. Charles Dunn officiating. Interment, Somerset Memorial Park. Military honor provided by Berlin VFW and American Legion.
