Born Sept. 21, 1919, in Greenville Township, she is the daughter of the late Harvey and Belinda (Bare) Miller. She was the last surviving member of her large immediate family. She is also preceded in death by brothers, George, Carl, Harvey, Elbert and Ray Miller and sisters, Alma Dietle, Edith Shultz, Maggie Williams, Mildred Dietle, Gladys Pope, Agnes Schrock and Ethel Miller and granddaughter, Christina Smith. Surviving are her husband of 59 years, John D. Meese; children, Shirley Smith, married to James D. Smith Jr., LaVale, Md.; and David Meese, married to the former Joyce Bender, Berlin; grandchildren, Kelli Smith, Amy Smith, James Smith III, Greta Meese, Benjamin Meese and Ella Meese; great grandsons, Zachary Wagoner, Jacob Dent and James Bennett Jr. Emma worked with her husband on the farm. She also worked five years at Meyersdale Manufacturing Co. and cared for her family, including her mother-in-law to her age 96. She was a lifelong member of Greenville Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Newman Funeral Home Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury. A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenville Lutheran Church. The Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment, Greenville Cemetery.
