Born in Berlin on March 24, 1847, Mr. Megahan came to Meyersdale at the age of 23 years and was enrolled in the first census of Meyersdale, which was taken during the month of January, 1871, prior to the incorporation of the village into a borough. He remained here for some years, having been engaged as a contracting plasterer. Later he removed to Wilkinsburg, where he resided 51 years, and where he founded the warehouse and moving business now conducted by two of his sons. He was a member of the South Avenue Methodist Church of Wilkinsburg during the more than a half century that he resided in that city. He was united in marriage with a daughter of the late Frederick Naugle, during the time that Mr. Naugle conducted a hotel in Meyersdale. During the few years prior to his death Mr. Megahan lived with a daughter, Mrs. E. Foster Andrews, at 920 Milton Avenue, Regent Square, in Pittsburgh. Mr. Megahan is also survived by two other daughters, Mrs. S. R. Alman, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. H. S. Docker, of Philadelphia. Besides the two sons, who took over the moving and warehouse business of their father, and whose given names are not mentioned in the notice of his death, Mr. Megahan is survived by four other sons, H. D. Megahan, treasurer of the Philadelphia Company, Pittsburgh; Arthur F. Megahan, of Denver, Colo.; Dr. C. R. Megahan, of Follansbee, W.Va., Justice of the Peace Frederick N. Megahan, of Wilkinsburg. Mr. Megahan was an uncle of the well known local post-office employee, Eugene C. Naugle, having been a brother-in-law of the late Joseph F. "Hooker" Naugle, father of Eugene Naugle. Many of the older citizens of Meyersdale and vicinity will remember Mr. Megahan, who was held in high esteem by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. Funeral services were held Friday night in the Eaton Funeral Home, 733 Ross Avenue, Wilkinsburg, with interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Berlin, Saturday afternoon.
