Menges, 94, Berlin, died April 6, 2008, at Rest Assured Living Center, Meyersdale. Born Jan. 19, 1914, in Berlin, the daughter of Dr. H.W. Menges and Minnie (Cober) Menges. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Ruth Menges Lancia; and brother-in-law, Bert Lancia. Survived by nephews, Robert Lancia, Galesburg, Ill.; and Dr. R.A. Lancia, wife, Dorien and sons, Neil and Alex, Raleigh, N.C.; and helpful friends, Katie Bell, Leota Landis, Ed and Shirley Reed, Marty Webb, Tom and Juanita Webb. A home economics graduate of Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) and did graduate work at Penn State University and New York University. Taught home economics at Shanksville-Stonycreek High School for two years and five years at Berlin Brothersvalley High School. In 1942, she was appointed home economics supervisor by the state Department of Education for Somerset and Cambria counties and later added supervision of school lunches. When the county school offices closed and Intermediate Units set up, three vocational offices were established. She was assigned to the Ligonier office and covered a four county area as vocational consultant. Former member of NEA, AHEA and life member of AVA. Member of Berlin Area Historical Society. Donated many antiques to the Heritage Haus. Interests included making appliquŽ quilts and was an avid reader. In younger years, she fished and hunted grouse with her father. Life member of the Berlin Brethren Church and Women's Missionary Society. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. The Rev. Gene Oburn officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ralph Landis. No viewing. Interment at IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berlin Brethren Church or the Berlin Area Historical Society.
