  Roger Lee Merkel, 44, of Spring Street, Fairhope, died July 8, 2001
  at Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown.  Born July 17, 1956 in Fairhope, a
  son of Elsie Elizabeth (Twigg), Fairhope, and the late Arthur Lee
  Merkel.  Surviving are Christina L. "Tina" (Rizer), his wife of 22
  years whom he married May 19, 1979; a son, Michael C. Bittner,
  Columbus, Ohio; 2 daughters, Rebecca L. "Becky" and Tammy J., both at
  home; a grandson, Shane Bittner, Cumberland, Md.; a brother, Cecil A.,
  Fairhope; five sisters, Alice F. Campbell and husband Robert, Altoona,
  Doris R. Shroyer and husband Roger, Fairhope, Carol A. Shooey and
  husband Bill, Greensburg, Karen L. Leydig, Hyndman, and Nancy V.
  Hogamier, Cresaptown, Md.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,
  nieces and nephews.  He was employed as a fabricator at Bedford
  Reinforced Plastics.  Member of the Kennells Mills and New Baltimore
  sportsmen's clubs and the Hyndman Rod and Run Club.  Friends will be
  received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
  Wednesday at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence Street,
  Hyndman, where funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m.
  Thursday.  Rev. Arthur T. Leaker officiating.  Interment, Comps
  Cemetery, Hyndman.
