MERKLE Arthur Lee Merkle, 51, of Fairhope, died March 25, 1974, in Altoona VA Hospital, where he had been a patient four months. A native of Fairhope, he was a son of the late George and Hulda (Richardson) Merkle. He had been employed as a plasterer, was a member of Fairhope Community Church, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, the former Elsie Twigg; three sons, Charles Merkle, Berlin; Pfc. Cecil Merkle, with the Army at Fort Meade, Md.; Roger Merkle, at home; five daughters, Mrs. Alice Campbell, Buffalo Mills RD 1; Mrs. Doris Shroyer, Fairhope RD 1; Carol, Karen and Nancy Merkle, at home; and seven grandchildren. He was a brother of John Deremer and Donald Merkle, Cleveland, Ohio; Dewey Merkle, Akron, Ohio; Victor and Harry Merkle, Cumberland, Md.; Darris Merkle and Mrs. Jean Dietz, Hyndman; Mrs. Alma Custer, Mrs. Betty Huffman and Mrs. Shirley Emerick, Hyndman RD 1; and Mrs. Helen Nair, Somerset. Funeral service will be conducted at two o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon in Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, with Rev. Leroy Logsdon officiating. Interment in Comps Cemetery.
