    Charles A. Merrill Jr., 71, 1101 E. Main St., Berlin, died June 10,
  1990, at home.  Born Jan. 31, 1919, in Garrett, son of Charles A. Sr.
  and Elizabeth (Todt) Merrill.  Preceded in death by parents; wife,
  former Elizabeth Landis, and brother, William A.II.  Survived by
  these children: Patricia, wife of Richard Hankinson, Vienna, Va.;
  Richard L., married to former Sue L. Merrill, Ligonier, and Sally,
  married to John Ancona, Homestead, Fla.; also seven grandchildren. 
  Member of Garrett United Church of Christ.  Graduate of Franklin and
  Marshall Academy and College.  Past president of Enterprise Coal
  Mining Co., Ponfeigh Land and Mining Co., Ponfeigh Smokeless Coal
  Co., Ponfeigh Farms Inc., W. A. Merrill Sons & Co. Inc., Pine Hill
  Coal Mining Co., Enterprise Supply Co., Merrill Enterprises Inc.,
  Merrill Brothers Coal Mining Co., Ocean View Hotel Inc. Chairman of
  board of First National Bank of Garrett, where he served as director
  for 40 years.  Avid fisherman who enjoyed trips to West Yellowstone,
  Mont., and New Zealand.  Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and
  7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service
  will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. Ralph Mills.  Internment,
  IOOF Cemetery, Berlin.  Contributions may be given to Somerset
  Hospital In Touch Hospice Program or to church or charity of your
  choice.
