    Elda L. Merrill, 89, of Wake Retirement Village, Shelburne, Vt.,
  died July 7, 1997, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. 
  Born Jan 20, 1908, in Upper Turkeyfoot Township.  Daughter of William
  A. and Rebecca J. (Clevenger) Leer.  Preceded in death by husband,
  Harold J. Merrill, in 1960; three brothers: Albert Leer, Ralph (Abe)
  Leer and W. Clyde (Pat) Leer; and four sisters: Zella Leer, Anna
  Catherine Leer, Edna Williams and Lola Pearle (Jimmie) Irwin. 
  Survived by two daughters:  Betty Speicher, Glens Falls, N.Y.; Alice
  Merrill, Plainfield, Vt.; five grandchildren, five
  great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  Following her
  graduation from California State Teachers College, she taught school
  for several years at the King School and in Rockwood until her
  marriage Harold J. Merrill of Garrett make her ineligible to
  continue.  They lived in Garrett and then Somerset and wintered in
  Palm Beach, Fla.  In 1994 she moved to Shelburne, Vt., to be near her
  family.  Her memberships and interests included the Children's Aid
  Home of Somerset, Eastern Star, the Welfare League of Somerset County
  and the Daughters of the Revolution (DAR).  Memorial services will be
  held at Wake Robin at 2 p.m. July 20 and, at a later date, in
  Somerset.  Burial in Berlin Cemetery.  Contributions may be sent to
  the Children's Aid Home Program of Somerset County, PO Box 1195,
  Somerset, Pa., 15501.  Arrangements made by Shelburne Funeral Chapel
  of Corbin and Palmer, Shelburne, Vt.

  Tuesday at Berlin IOOF Cemetery, with the Rev. Glenn E. Sadler
  officiating.  Contributions may be made to Children's Aid Society of
  Somerset County, P.O. Box 1195, Somerset, Pa. 15501.  Arrangements
  under the direction of the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset.
