Merrill, 74, of RD 4, Oldtown Road, Md., died Friday, Sept. 12, 1986, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. He was born in Merrill, Md., Aug. 6, 1912, son of the late James and Drucilla (Hummel) Merrill. He was a retired employee of the Celanese Fibers Company. He was a member of the Living Stone Church of the Brethren and a musical group of the church, Strings and Things. Survivors included one son, Samuel R. Merrill, Detroit, Mich.; two daughters: Mrs. Kathryn Garland and Mrs. Linda Garber, both of Cumberland, Md.; three brothers: Harry Merrill, McCoole, Md.; Paul Merrill, Oakland, Md.; James (Junior) Merrill, Cumberland, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Nira Brown, Salisbury; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where services were conducted Monday at 1 p.m. at the Living Stone Church of the Brethren by the Rev. John Huffaker. Interment, Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Larry Geiger, Eugene Bergman, Joseph Forbeck, Wayne Merrill, Bobby Merrill and Paul Savage. The Republic, September 18, 1986 [M1144]
