Donald Messenger, 73, Somerset, died Oct. 19, 2000 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Feb. 14, 1927 in Charleston, W.Va. Son of Virgil Stanhope and Edith (Gank) Messenger. Preceded in death by parents, granddaughter Amy Messenger and a brother Woodrow Messenger. Survived by wife the former A. Armeda Knapp of Somerset to whom he was married 54 years; children, Mrs. Richard D. (Brenda) Kovack, Somerset, Mr. David L. Messenger married to the former Holly R. Swank of Friedens; a granddaughter, Tyrell E. Messenger of Somerset, and a great-granddaughter Sage Elizabeth Amy Messenger. Brother of Francis Messenger of Charleston, W.Va. and Joseph Messenger of Tallahassee, Fla. Also sister-in-law Marguerite Messenger of Charleston, W.Va. Served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947. Was a self-employed handyman. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Rev. Keith M. Fink officiating. Interment, St. Johns Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Western PA Chapter, 119 Federal St., Room 509, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15212.
