Born Feb. 22, 1921 in Glen Campbell, Pa., he was the son of Gaetano and Mary (Bambino) Messina. He had lived in Ravenna since 1952. Mr. Messina was motor pool manager for the Ohio Department of Transportation division office in Ravenna until he retired. He also was a Portage County special deputy. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna and served on the Ravenna Planning Commission. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Florence (Quattro), to whom he was married 50 years; sons, Michael of Ravenna and Mark (Michelle) of Wilkes-Barre; one grandchild, and sisters, Irene Barnett of Pennsylvania, and Pauline Mandalin of Kent, Ohio. Two brothers previously died. A funeral service was held at Shorts Funeral Homes, Ravenna Chapel. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
