Messina, 85, West Union Street, Somerset, formerly of South Fork and Ehrenfeld, Pa., passed away Jan. 6, 1998, at home, following a lengthy illness. Born May 22, 1912, in South Fork, son of Joseph and Carmella (Purcella) Messina. Preceded in death by parents, and seven brothers and sisters. Mr. Messina was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Also preceded in death by his wife, Veronica (Sinosky) Messina, who passed away Aug. 11, 1977. Survived by wife, Agnes (Stein-Just) Messina; and these children: Arthur Jr., married to the former Barbara Washington of Upper St. Clair; Kenneth, married to the former Susan Erb of Grand Prairie, Texas; Daniel, married to the former Joanne Riley of Plano, Texas; and Patti, married to Dennis Graziani of Ehrenfeld. Also survived by 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and special nephew, Anthony Ardire, and wife, Ida. Mr. Messina was a 1930 graduate of South Fork High School. Member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and St. Peter's Catholic Church of Somerset. He was activity director of the Fifty-Five and Over Speeders Club of Somerset. Lifetime member of South Fork Fire Department, and member of the Sons of Italy. Past president and mayor of Ehrenfeld Borough. Retired employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the state of Pennsylvania. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Msgr. Samuel Tomaselli officiating. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, New Germany. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the Somerset "In Touch" Hospice, in care of the Somerset Hospital.
