He was born April 13, 1922 in Sand Patch, son of the late Edward R. and Amanda (Berkley) Meyers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma; grandson, Stephen Godlewski; brothers: George, Edgar, William, Elmer, Clarence and Walter; and sister, Zura. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Joseph Nalley, Chesapeake Beach, MD; Lois and Harry Godlewski, Donora; and Cindy and John Thigpen, Claxton, GA; grandchildren: Michael Nalley, David and Joseph Godlewski, James, Patrick, Thomas and Julie Thigpen. He attended the Sand Patch and Bauman Schools and graduated in 1942 from Meyersdale High School. In World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman in Germany. He married Alma Mazer on December 24, 1946 in Cumberland, MD. Though baptized and raised in the Church of the Brethren, he later transferred his membership to Mt. Carmel Evangelical Lutheran Church (White Oak), Meyersdale. He was a 60-year member of the American Legion, Charles E. Kelly Post 112, Meyersdale; past Commander of Post 112 and District 24 past Adjutant. Friends were received at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale. A celebration of life service and interment was held at the White Oak Church and Cemetery, with Pastor Glenn Foster officiating. Graveside Military Honor by Charles E. Kelly Post #112.
