Dr. Meyers had been in poor health for several years, having undergone an operation in a Cumberland, Md. hospital, after which he was able to resume his practice, but soon after, complications set in, and he was forced to give up his work. At the time of the death of Dr. Carl Frantz, he was then not expected to live long, but his endurance carried him through until now. Dr. Meyers came to Confluence from Markleysburg in 1905, and practiced medicine there very successfully during the 35 years. He was a World War veteran, and counted the years he was examining physician in the army as the best and most enjoyable experience. Beside his practice he was also interested in business affairs. For a period of years he was agent for the Ford Motor Co. As owner of several farms and considerable real estate he was an exceptionally busy man. His friends were legion and from among the high and lowly. The amount of his charity will never be known. It can be said of him he never let his left hand know what his right hand did. A close friend of his said "Dr. Meyers will long be remembered for his kindly disposition, and for his generous philanthropic nature. He was always ready and willing to help and extended medical aid to those whose financial condition was such that there was no assurance of recompence." He was indeed a busy man, but with all his other interests, he kept up with all current events and was an indefatigable reader and was an authority on many subjects. He was active in all civic affairs, was a Mason, a member of the local Lions Club, and of the American Legion, and an active member of the Methodist Church, being a member of the official board of that church. He was president of the Somerset County Medical Association for quite a number of years, and B. and O. doctor for a lengthy period and director in the Confluence Band. He was buried Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church where the body lay in state for one hour with a military guard of honor. The pallbearers were World War veterans, and the Legion members formed a military escort. Rev. J. O. Martin, pastor of the church, had charge of the services and the Methodist choir sang the music selections. The floral tributes were numerous, varied and most beautiful. The interment was in the Addison Cemetery. Dr. Meyers was married to Florence Thomas of Markleysburg, who died in 1928, having one child, Dr. Paul Meyers, of Johnstown. He later married Daisy Michel of Confluence, who, with his son, survive. Confluence and a wide vicinity will greatly miss Dr. Meyers. Meyersdale Republican, June 13, 1940
