The tragic accident which resulted in the death of the tiny tot, occurred last Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyers, Somerset R.D., when an accumulation of gas in the kitchen stove caused an explosion in the ash pan, spraying the tiny victim with burning embers. Richard was playing with a toy truck on the back porch of the Meyers home and several other children were playing on the kitchen floor nearer the stove, however, when the explosion occurred the Meyers child was in direct line of the flames, which ignited his clothing. He was immediately rushed to the Community Hospital for treatment and lived until Monday night. In addition to his parents, Richard leaves one brother, Alvin, aged 4 years and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Meyers, Somerset R.D., and Mrs. Effie Ott of Meyersdale. Funeral services were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at the Rockwood Brethren Church. Interment was made in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Mills and Mickey, Rockwood morticians. Meyersdale Republican, May 21, 1942
