Meyers, a native of Meyersdale, died on Monday evening, Oct. 20, at the home of his sister, Mrs. William Jones, of 1534 Virginia Street, Charleston, W.Va., after an illness which confined him to his bed and a wheeled chair for more than four years, and which finally terminated in a cerebral hemorrhage which proved fatal. "Billy", as he was familiarly known to his friends, was aged 62 years, on the 21st of September, last. He was a son of the late Dr. Wm. H. and Maggie Large Meyers and lived nearly all of his life in the house in which he was born, on Meyers Avenue, now the property of Mrs. Mary Large. When the disease which crippled him had encroached so that he could no longer be about, he went to Charleston to make his home with his sister, Mrs. Jones, where his last days were spent in peace and quietness. He often expressed himself as being content to go, leaving no enemies and feeling he had expiated and been forgiven whatever sins he had committed. During the last year, his only remaining brother, John S. Meyers, and the latter's wife (Ada Lehman) went to Charleston, also, to make their home with Mrs. Jones, so they could care for "Billy," as well as for Mrs. Jones who is in rather delicate health. "Billy" bore his affliction very patiently, never complaining, and very grateful for the kind ministrations of his sister, brother and sister-in-law. Funeral services were held at the Jones home on Tuesday evening at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Dr. Gass, rector of the Episcopal church, of which Mr. Meyers was a member. On Wednesday the body was brought to Meyersdale on B. & O. train No. 8, by Mr. and Mrs. John S. Meyers, and was taken at once to the Union Cemetery where the burial service was read by Rev. J. Luther Frantz. The pall-bearers were R. H. Philson, F. B. Thomas, Jack Dively, Michael Hady, Howard Phillips, John Rayless and E. L. Donges. R. Reich & Son had charge of the burial arrangements. Two brothers, Charles and Robert, preceded Wm. H. Meyers in death. He is survived by one brother, John Simpson Meyers, and two sisters, Mrs. Samuel G. Walker of Hapeville, Ga., and Mrs. Wm. Jones. Mr. Meyers was never married. Meyersdale Republican, October 23, 1930
