MICHAEL August 23, 1908-December 17, 2003 Julius S. Michael, 95, of Meyersdale, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at his home. Born August 23, 1908, in Frostburg, Md., he was a son of the late Forest and Maggie (Layman) Michael. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, E. Frances (Baer) Michael; sister, Eleanor Michael; stepson, Larry Early; stepdaughter, Nancy Bittner; one step-granddaughter; and three step great-grandchildren. He is survived by his second wife of 47 years, Mary (Yutzy) Early Michael; two sons: Bertrand Michael and his wife Anna, Frostburg, Md.; and Joseph Michael, Berkeley, Calif.; and a daughter, Margaret M. Harless, West Friendship, Md.; also two stepdaughters: Arlene, wife of Deron Hatton, Pocahontas; and Ilene, wife of John Wagner, Meyersdale; two grandchildren, eight step grandchildren; and 10 step great-grandchildren. He was a brother of Stanley Michael and his wife Lee, American Canyon, Calif.; Mildred Beachy of Anchorage, Alaska; and Helen Duckworth, Hanover. Julius was a quiet, kind, and loving father and husband. He was a member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. He was formerly employed at the Celanese Corporation in Cumberland, Md.; Baer and Company in Meyersdale; and retired from Meyersdale Area High School with 28 years of service in the maintenance department. His trades included electrician, plumber, welder and carpenter. Julius will be remembered for his numerous wood crafts and for his volunteer work at the PA Maple Festival and at the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. Friends were received Friday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Pete Kaltenbaugh and Pastor Daniel Whitacre officiating.
