Kent Miller, 64, well-known Somerset farm equipment dealer and former burgess of Somerset, died Saturday morning, May 1, in the Johnstown Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born July 6, 1883, the son of Peter and Harriet Bowman Miller of Somerset Township. In his early years, he was a teacher in the rural Somerset County schools. In 1905, he opened a real estate and loan office in Somerset and became a contractor and builder. He built numerous homes and buildings in Somerset and neighboring counties. After the First World War, he went into the farm equipment business in which he became very successful. His business contacts gained him a host of friends throughout the rural areas of southwestern Pennsylvania and in Maryland. He recently completed the erection of a cement block building on Fuller Avenue, and had intended to move his office and warehouse from its present location on North Center Avenue. Mr. Miller was burgess of Somerset at one time and a Justice of the Peace for 12 years. He was vice president of the Somerset County Trust Company and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elsie Statler Miller; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Dixon of Greenville, S.C., and Mrs. Floyd Keffer, Meyersdale; one grandchild, J. Kent Dixon, and two brothers, Pierce Miller of Somerset and M. A. Miller of Johnstown. Funeral services were conducted at the Hauger Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. Dr. I. Hess Wagner officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, May 6, 1948
