F. McCabe & Co., near Boswell, proved fatal just one month after the accident. The death of the unfortunate young man came as a great surprise to his family and friends, and to the hospital staff as well, for up to within a few hours of his death, he appeared to be on the sure road to recovery. Mr. Miller's major injuries consisted of broken pelvis bones and an oblique fracture of the right femur. The latter injury was the most serious and the surgeons decided that he would never be able to use his leg again unless he had a silver plate inserted along side the fractured bone. He had been a patient in the Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, since the day of the accident and had the best surgical care available. An operation for the purpose above stated was made this (Thursday) morning and was completed about 10 a.m., apparently with success, at first, but at 12 o'clock, noon, the patient expired without having recovered from the effects of the anesthetic. His death was entirely unexpected, as up to the time of the operation he seemed to be making rapid recovery. He was in the best of spirits and laughed and joked with members of the hospital staff just before going under the ether for the operation. Bruce Miller was aged 35 years and was one of the most efficient and trustworthy men employed by M. F. McCabe & Co., road contractors, during the last few years. He was an expert concrete worker and a young man of sterling character. He was the only son of the late Mahlon Miller and was married to Nettie Maust, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson P. Maust of Salisbury. He is survived by his wife, one son, Junior, aged 6, and one daughter, Daphene, aged 3, and by four sisters, Mrs. Charles Buckle of Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Norman Patton of Grantsville, Md.; Mrs. Harry Pope, of Meyersdale, and Miss June Miller, a student nurse in the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.; also by his step- mother, Mrs. Mahlon (Kreitzburg) Miller, of Meyersdale. One sister, Mrs. Martha Fike, preceded him in death. His body was brought to Meyersdale by Funeral Director W. C. Price to be prepared for burial Sunday afternoon. The funeral party will leave the family home on Grant Street at 1:30 p.m. and proceed to the Church of the Brethren where funeral services will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. George L. Detweiler, followed by interment in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, October 16, 1930
