Born Nov. 4, 1914, in Blaine, W.Va., daughter of Benjamin Pleasant and Bertie Lee (Iser) Day. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Philip S. Miller, who died March 22, 1980; son, Melvin Shaffer; daughter, Geraldine Gioia; brothers, Lewis, Homer and Robert Day; sisters, Mary Alice Lobefalo, Edna Baker and Edith Shaffer. Survived by daughter-in-law, Elaine Shaffer, Pennsburg; son-in-law, A.A. Gioia, Conover, N.C.; grandchildren, Megan Shaffer, Long Island, N.Y.; James Shaffer, Burlington, N.J.; Amy L. Saydoff, Middletown, Md.; Kathleen Gioia, Houston; and great-grandchildren, William and Camille Shaffer and Ryan A. Saydoff. Also survived by brother, Melvin Day, Somerset, and sister Nellie Kaley of Pittsburgh. Worked as a Practical Nurse for Somerset Hospital until her retirement in 1976 with 26 years of service, also a member of Somerset Church of the Brethren. No viewing or visitation. A service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. The Rev. Mark S. Bendes officiating. Interment St. John's Cemetery.
