"Merdie" 08/17/05 Daily American Merdith W. "Merdie" Miller, 82, Somerset, formerly of Indian Head, died Aug. 15, 2005, at Somerset Hospital. Born Feb. 17, 1923, in Kingview, Fayette County, a son of the late J. Frank and Laura Echard Miller. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Doris Brooks Miller, and one sister, Alverda "Sis" Johnson. He is survived by his children, S. Gordon Miller and his wife, Sharon, Connellsville; Mary Elizabeth Oglevee and her husband, Craig, Somerset; and Malora Bentz and her husband, Earl, Somerset; grandchildren, Andrew, Nicholas and Timothy Miller, Adrian, Nathan and his wife, Noelle, and Seth Custer and Laura Whitehead; step grandchildren: Stefan and his wife, Melissa, Ethan and his wife, Danielle and Ashley Oglevee, Jessica Rankin and Rebekah Bentz; step great-grandchildren: Max and Alexandra Oglevee and Johnny and Theodore Rankin. Brother of Simon P. Miller and his wife, Carol, Easley, S.C.; Evelyn Lane and her husband, Robert, Connellsville; and Charles Miller and his wife, Diane, West Overton. Also survived by his special friend and companion Mary Ellen Meyn, Indian Head. "Merdie" was a 1943 graduate of the former East Huntingdon Township High School. He was a professional long-distance truck driver for more than 30 years and he was the owner/operator of Miller's Saw Sharpening and Outdoor Equipment Sales. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a member and past president of the Roof Garden Model Airplane Club and a member of the Laurel Highlands Model Railroad Club. He was also an active member of the Indian Head Church of God. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., Route 711, Melcroft, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating.
