MILLER Boswell Teacher Sick, Despondent Hanged Himself Boswell - Despondent because of ill health, Merle T. Miller, 56, veteran Boswell school teacher, took his own life by hanging himself from a tree on the Miller homestead in Stonycreek Twp., operated by his twin brother, William Miller. Hiram and Edith Geisel, who reside on an adjoining farm, found the body of the suicide in the sugar grove of the farm as they were taking cows to water, and notified his brother. Coroner P. C. Dosch of Somerset conducted an investigation. Miller had been in failing health for several years and had requested and was granted permission to take a week off from his teaching duties because he had not been feeling well. He was a graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College, and had served on the faculty of the Boswell High School for 23 years. Prior to that he served as supervising principal of the Jenner Twp. schools for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette (Laney) Miller, and his twin brother. His wife is a teacher in the first grade of the Boswell schools. Mr. Miller was a member of the Lutheran Church in Boswell. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Miller home by Rev. Hillis Berkey, pastor of the Boswell Lutheran Church, assisted by Rev. Ellwood L. Hauser of Bedford, former pastor. Interment in the Jenner Crossroads United Brethren Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 30, 1943
