Miller, 73, a retired bishop of the Mennonite Church, died Friday morning at his home in Springs. He was a native of Grantsville, Md., a son of the late Joel J. and Savilla (Beachy) Miller and was a member of the Springs Mennonite Church. He was ordained in 1920 and became bishop in 1938. He served as secretary of the Allegany conference of the Mennonite Church from 1926 to 1938. He was secretary of the former Springs Mutual Telephone Company. He is survived by his wife, Verna Folk Miller; two sons, Bayard Miller of Staunton, Va.; and Denver Miller of Torrence, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Eva Weise of Groton, Mass.; a brother, Alvin Miller of Kent, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Annie Yoder of Grantsville and four grandchildren. Funeral service was held in the Springs Mennonite Church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Walter Otto officiating. Burial in Casselman Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, April 14, 1966 [M1840]
