MILLER Robert Garfield Miller, 85, formerly of Meyersdale, died April 7, in Norfolk, Va., where he had been living with his daughter, Mary Fanetta Waples for several years. He was born in Meyersdale, son of Norman E. and Fannie Miller. His father was founder of Miller's Store, Meyersdale, later forming a partnership with George G. Collins in Miller and Collins Department Store, which became the largest store of its kind in Somerset County. The name of the business reverted back to Miller's dept. store after the retirement and death of Mr. Collins. Robert Miller eventually assumed the management of the store and finally sold the business to Alexander Stephens. It remained in the hands of the Stephens family (still under the name of Miller's) until fire destroyed the building and business in June 1965. Robert Miller is survived by a son, Cedric Miller, Charleston, W. Va., and daughter, Mrs. Ralph E. Miller, Norfolk. His wife and another son, Paul preceded him in death. He was a member of Meyersdale Lodge 554, F & A.M., and of Hebron Royal Arch Chapter 273, Meyersdale. A funeral service was held in Norfolk. The body was brought to Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where a private service was conducted by the Rev. Wm. F. Snell and Masonic rites performed Sunday afternoon. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
