MILLS Mary Maxine Mills, 77, of Grantsville, Md., died Feb. 29, 1996, at her residence. Mills was born June 14, 1918, in Bayard, W.Va. She was the daughter of the late McCullough L. and Lena Rachael Leatherman Stieringer. She is survived by a son, James E. Mills, Fairfax, Va.; two daughters: Diane Lutes, Carbondale, Ill.; and Constance J. Hargreaves, Centreville, Va.; eight grandchildren: Ronald Lee, Butch and Jeff Hargreaves, Cheryl Wager, Bonnie Luchino and Danny, Shane and Joey Mills; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mills was a retired store manager for the Highs Convenience Store. She was a member of the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary; a former member of the Grantsville American Legion Auxiliary, Post 214; and the co-coordinator of the Garrett County Area Agency on Aging. She also helped with the blood drive in Grantsville and was Methodist by faith. Friends were received March 2 at the Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville. Services were conducted March 3 at the funeral home. Rev. George Lohr officiated. Interment, Flint Hill Cemetery, Vienna, Va. New Republic, March 7, 1996 [M2019]
