Mitchell, 55, of Fort Hill, died Jan. 1, 2002 at his home. Born Nov. 4, 1946 in Confluence. Son of Hilda (Phillippi) Mitchell Gibbs of Fort Hill and the late Harvey Mitchell. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by son Timothy and brother Larry. Besides his mother, he is survived by step-father Mason Gibbs of Fort Hill; wife Rita of Somerset; daughters Stephanie Lytle of Markleton and April Mitchell of Somerset; son John E. Mitchell of Rockwood; three grandchildren; brothers Ronald Mitchell of Fort Hill, Terry Mitchell of Ursina, Roger Mitchell of Addison and Randy Gibbs of Confluence; and sister Darlene Gibbs of Addison. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War and was a member of the Confluence, Salisbury and Bruceton Mills (W.Va.) VFWs and the Grantsville, Md., American Legion. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of service, Friday at Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, the Rev. Ronald Schaeffer officiating.
