Mitchell received the full charge of his own shotgun in the right leg near the thigh while climbing over a fence. The gun which was leaned against the fence fell to the ground and was discharged. The unfortunate man was hunting small game with two nephews at the time of the accident. They were deep in the mountains and it was necessary to carry the wounded man almost three miles to an automobile. Because of the nature and location of the wound, difficulty was experienced in checking the flow of blood. Several hours had elapsed from the time of the accident until he reached the Somerset Community Hospital and Mitchell had lost a lot of blood before receiving professional attention. Russell Mitchell was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James K. Mitchell of Confluence, R.D. 2. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon under the direction of the Humbert Funeral Service at Confluence.
