"Bill" Moore, U.S. Army Major (Ret.), 77, of Laughlintown, Pa., died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at his home. Born Sept. 9, 1920, in New Lexington, Pa. Son of George B. and Laura (Saylor) Moore. Preceded in death by parents and brother Robert. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy M. (Reichel) Moore, and these children: C.W., and his wife Patricia Moore II, Roaring Springs, Texas; Michael D., and his wife Lisa Moore, Cisco, Texas; Mrs. Myron (Donna M.) Thiel, Green Valley, Ariz.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also a brother, Dean S. Moore, Marlton, N.J. Bill was a retired Army major having served his country for over 23 years. He was a charter member of the Ligonier Valley Veteran's Honor Guard; life member and past post commander of Byers-Tosh Post 267 American Legion in Ligonier; life member of Ligonier VFW Post 734; a charter and life member and past president of the Gen. Green Chapter of the Retired Officers Assoc. in Greensburg; a member of the Penna. Society-Sons of the American Revolution Somerset-Cambria Chapter; and life member of the Latrobe Elks. He was also a two-time past president of the Ligonier Lions Club where he was the recipient of the highest honor possible awarded to its members, the Melvin Jones Award. Bill will long be remembered as a humanitarian who volunteered endless hours to the many groups he belonged to, and for his endliess dedication to his wife, family and the flag under which he so proudly served. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Inc., Ligonier. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. Memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the Ligonier Lions Club, 144 E. Main St., Ligonier, Pa. 15658 or the the American Cancer Society. The Ligonier Valley Veterans' Honor Guard will hold services in the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m. The Ligonier Lions Club will hold services in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
