Miss Morrell, who lived at 1633 Hobart St., N.W., Washington, D.C., for 28 years, while employed as bond clerk in the Registration office of the U.S. Treasury, retired from that work about March 1, and on April 1, went to St. Petersburg to visit her sister. There she contacted bronchitis which developed into pneumonia which resulted in her death a few days later. Miss Morrell was born in Meyersdale, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Morrell. Mr. Morrell, who came here from New York State, was in the furniture manufacturing business during the days when much of the furniture used locally was made by local manufacturers. Mr. Morrell died in 1909 and Mrs. Morrell in 1913. A few years later the daughters moved to Washington where Miss Hattie secured employment and her sister married and lived in Virginia for many years. Miss Hattie at the age of 12 years became a member of the Methodist church here. While living in Washington she was an active member of Calvary M.E. Church. Her body was brought to Meyersdale from St. Petersburg, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. McCarty, and laid to rest in the family burial plot in Union Cemetery under the direction of W. C. Price & Son. Besides her sister, Mrs. McCarty, Miss Morrell's only surviving relatives are two nieces, Mrs. Elizabeth Payne, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Foster Morrell, Roswell, N.M., daughters of Charles Morrell, a deceased brother of Miss Morrell and Mrs. McCarty.
