MURPHY Funeral services for William A. Murphy, 94, a retired Garrett County farmer, who died at the home of his son, Quincy A. Murphy, Friendsville, last Wednesday night, were held in the Johnson Methodist Church, Saturday afternoon. Rev. Charles Sisk, the pastor, assisted by Rev. Raymond Crowe, officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Murphy was born and spent his entire life in Garrett County, near Long Stretch. His wife, Mrs. Henrietta (Crowe) Murphy, died about three years ago. He retired from farming about twenty years ago and moved to Frostburg. Since last April he resided with his son in Friendsville. He suffered a stroke, Jan. 20, which hastened his death. Mr. Murphy was an active member of the Johnson Church and was superintendent of the Sunday School for 20 years. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. C. A. Fike, Friendsville; Mrs. Asa Fresh, New Germany; Mrs. Frank Keene, Frostburg; Ernest, Marion and Ray Murphy and Mrs. Alvan Cook, Frostburg. He left also 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Crowe and Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Crowe, of Meyersdale, attended the funeral of Mr. Murphy who was an uncle of Eugene Crowe. Meyersdale Republican, February 7, 1946
