Mrs. Murray, 22, the wife of Gerald W. Murray, discharged World War II veteran, was brought to the Hazel McGilvery Hospital by a neighbor, Robert Ringler, who heard her scream as she ran out of the house in flames, and went to her assistance. She died in the hospital about 30 hours later. She was burned from below the knees up, including her face which was burned beyond recognition. Three-fourths of her body received second degree burns, according to the coroner's statement. Nevertheless she was conscious up to a few hours before her death. The only one in the house with her at the time of the accident was her three- year-old son. Her husband, who is employed at the Cities Service Gas Station on Route 219, west of Meyersdale, was away from home when the tragedy occurred. Mrs. Murray was born Dec. 4, 1923, the daughter of Solomon and Mary (Johnson) Brant, who survive. Also surviving, besides her parents, husband and little son, William, are several brothers and sisters. About two months ago Mr. and Mrs. Murray moved to a home of their own at Romania, from an apartment on the ground floor of the Agnes Deal property, corner of Center St. and Broadway, Meyersdale, where she and her baby son lived the two years while Mr. Murray was serving in the Army. He was discharged several months ago. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Konhaus Funeral Home, Rev. S. Loren Bowman, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, Meyersdale, officiating. Interment was made in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, May 16, 1946
