Born November 9, 1926, in Greenville Township, he was the son of the late Clay and Elsie May (Fuller) Murray. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Murray. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Betty (Patton) Murray, whom he married August 17, 1953; two sons: Larry L. Ashbrook and wife Sharon, Berlin; Vaughn Murray, Salisbury; two daughters: Janice Menser, Berlin; Kimberly Smith and husband Mark, Salisbury; five brothers: Frank Murray, Salisbury; Robert Murray, Avilton, Md.; Dale Murray, Frostburg, Md.; Roy Murray, Dearborn, Mich.; Carl "Sam" Murray, Beaverdam, Ohio; ten sisters: Stella Delbrook, Walkersville, Md.; Emma Durst and Shirley Deal, both of Salisbury; Norma Deal, West Salisbury; Wilma Watson, Meyersdale; JoAnn Bingamon, Flintstone, Md.; Betty Gaumer, Dearborn, Mich.; Rita Miller, Fort Hill; Doris Hennessey, Cladin; Alma Gaumer, Frostburg, Md.; eight grandchildren: Jessica and Michael Ashbrook; Kedrick Lapp, Jr.; Renee Bittinger, Terra Lapp; Katrinia Snyder; Benjamin and Isaiah Smith and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Murray was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Salisbury. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a member of the Salisbury American Legion, Salisbury V.F.W., Salisbury Lions Club, Meyersdale Elks and the Laurel Falls Association. He was a former member of the Salisbury Fire Dept. and had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for Keystone Lime Co., at the time of his retirement. Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury, where services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.
