  MURRAY, Walter "Ray"   11-13-08, The New Republic
  June 26, 1931 - November 8, 2008
  
    Surrounded by family, Walter "Ray" Murray, 77 of Meyersdale, went to be with 
  the Lord on November 8, 2008 at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin following a 
  long, courageous battle with diabetes.
    Walter was born on June 26, 1931, in Corrigansville, MD. He was preceded in 
  death by parents Allen and Anna (Lapp) Murray, and brother Bernard. 
    He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorla Jean (Hay) Murray, who 
  for years had been his devoted caregiver; children: Sharon, wife of Larry 
  Ashbrook, Berlin; Kathy, wife of James Hittie, Berlin; and Donald Murray, and 
  his wife Jeannie (Middleton), Nescopeck, PA.
    Also survived by six grandchildren: Jessica Ashbrook and fiancee, Gregory 
  Persson, Imperial, PA; Michael Ashbrook and his wife Shameka (Radcliffe), 
  Berlin; Elyse (Hittie), wife of Russ Ebersole, Berlin; Erica Hittie, Berlin; 
  Emily and Zachary Murray, Nescopeck, PA; and two great granddaughters: Skyler 
  and Alexis Ashbrook, Berlin.
    Ray retired after 38 years of service as an electrical technician for Agway, 
  Inc. He was an Army veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. 
    He is a former member of the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Dept; a member of the 
  Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Meyersdale.  Family received friends Tuesday at 
  the Price Funeral Home Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. 
  Wednesday, with the Rev. Frank E. Harpster III officiating. Interment Fritz 
  Cemetery Meyersdale. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 112 
  and VFW Post 3504 Meyersdale.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fritz Cemetery 
  Association, in care of Paul D. Hay, 345 Creek Rd., Meyersdale, PA 15552.
