"Pet" Myers, Jr., 74, formerly of Somerset and formerly of Mercersburg RD 2, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 26, 1997, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born April 6, 1923, near Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Grover C. and Hazel (Hawbaker) Myers Sr. He was a truck driver for 45 years, retiring in 1988. During his driving career, he drove for the former Fry Coal & Stone Co. of Mercersburg; GM&W Trucking of Greencastle; independently; and prior to his retirement for various independent firms. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the European African and Middle-Eastern campaigns and received a Cmbat[sic] Medic Badge and earned three Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW of Somerset, and the American Legions of Breezewood and Clear Spring, Md. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. He was of Protestant faith. He is survived by a son, Theodore E. Myers of Mercersburg, a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Fred) Hose of Greencastle; a brother, Enos Wayne Myers of Hagerstown, Md. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Me [sic] was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie L. Hock and Julia I. Steele. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, with the Rev. Billy Clark officiating. Burial, Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, with a military graveside service conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post No. 1599 of Chambersburg. Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
