Nelson, 82, Sechler Road, Somerset, died Sept. 4, 1997 in Somerset Hospital. Born Oct. 31, 1914, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Carl W. and Freda (Schwable) Nelson. Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Ross and Carl. Survived by his wife, Jane Riedel Nelson, and three sons: William L., married to Patricia, Bethlehem; Richard W., married to Jane, Northfield, Minn., and Mark A., married to Faith, Bedford; nine grandchildren; sister, Grayce Baker, Lexington, N.C.; brother, Rodney J., Florida. Member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset. Served as captain in U.S. Army in World War II. Member of the Masonic Lodge 537, F. & A.M., Columbus, Ga. Retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources. No visitation. Memorial service Saturday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church Chapel, with Pastor Robert L. Hoover officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Somerset Hospice, South Center Avenue, Somerset, or Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements in the charge of Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home.
