(Joe) Newman, former chief financial executive for Ajax Magnethermic Company, died Dec. 18, 2002, in Atlanta, Ga. He was born in Boswell June 11, 1914, son of the late Charles and Cynthia McCoy Newman. Mr. Newman was married to Sarah Easton Newman of Niagara Falls, N.Y., in 1945. Mrs. Newman died in 1998. He is survived by a son, Christopher J. Newman and his wife Anna Marie Newman of Poland, Ohio; daughters, Holly Newman and her husband John Salsberg of Boston; Laurel Newman of Atlanta; and Beth Newman and her husband Philip Varey of Atlanta; and six grandchildren. Mr. Newman had been a long-time resident of Youngstown, Ohio; Naples, Fla.; New Castle and Jennerstown, and at the time of his death resided in the Budd Terrace Nursing Home in Atlanta. Mr. Newman served at Ajax from 1960 until his retirement in 1979. He had also served as a financial officer at Shenango China Company in New Castle and at Armstrong Cork Company, Lancaster. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1939 and was a lifetime booster of the Penn State football team. Mr. Newman's memberships included the Country Club of Naples, the Naples Athletic Club, Tippecanoe Country Club, Youngstown Buckeye Club, Warren; New Castle Country Club; Lawrence Club, New Castle. A memorial service will be held at the Eventide Room at Budd Terrace, Wesley Woods, 1833 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, Ga. on Monday, Dec. 23, at 4 p.m. Daily American, Dec. 24, 2002
