Mr. Newman suffered a stroke some years ago, and although he recovered rapidly at the time, his health soon began to fail, and has been deteriorating ever since. Most of the time he was able to get around until recently. Mr. Newman was a partner in the R. Newman Lumber Co. for 40 years, and retired in 1932. Familiarly known to all in Salisbury as "Bud", he was well liked because of his unfailing good humor, and continual joking. He was a member of St. John's Reformed Church and has been a widower since 1925, when his wife Carrie (Lowry) Newman died. He was born in Garrett County, Md., on April 28, 1868, son of William and Margaret (Blocher) Newman, and was just 11 days past his 81st birthday at his death. He is survived by two sons, George W. Newman and Hubert L. Newman, and by one grandchild. Funeral services were conducted at his home at 2:00 p.m. on May 11 with his pastor, the Rev. Ira S. Monn, officiating. Interment in the IOOF Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, May 12, 1949
