Newman, 74, of Rockwood, died Saturday, Feb. 26, in Somerset Community Hospital where he had been a patient two and one half years. Mr. Newman was born in Summit Township, September 21, 1874, the son of Alexander and Ann Fike Newman. He lived the greater part of his life in Milford Township. He was widely known as a cattle dealer. Earlier in life, he was a teacher, having taught in Hooversville, Rockwood and Black Township. His wife, Phoebe Queer Newman, preceded him in death. He is survived by three brothers, Milton and Lloyd Newman of Rockwood and Judd Newman of Akron, O., and by a sister, Mrs. Nevin Shaulis of Somerset. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Walter S. Hoffman Funeral Home, Somerset, the Rev. W. F. Berkebile of the Rockwood Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, March 3, 1949
