Newman, 69, of Salisbury, died July 31, 1979, in Salisbury. Born July 27, 1911, in Elk Lick Township, son of the late Frank and Sally (May) Newman. Survived by his wife, the former Vera M. Davis; one son, Richard, of Linthicum, Md.; two daughters: Mrs. Carol Pruitt of Lusby, Md.; and Mrs. Janet Newman Saville of Annaheim, Calif. Also survived by two brothers: Karl, of West Salisbury and Lews of Kaiser, W. Va.; two sisters: Mrs. Mary Belle Choconas of Washington, D. C. and Miss Ruby Newman of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren, and an Elk Lick Township Supervisor for the past seven years; a retired farmer and saw-miller. Friends will be received after 7 p.m. Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Salisbury, where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., the Rev. Daniel J. Whitacre officiating.
