She had been a resident of Salisbury for many years, but went to the home of the son mentioned some time last autumn in very poor health. The principal cause of her death was cancer of the throat. Her husband, the late Nevin R. Newman, died in 1939. Mrs. Newman was the youngest child of David and Harriet Schrock Newman, and was born and reared in Elk Lick Township, near Salisbury. She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. She is survived by three sons, Robert of Meyersdale, Clyde of Middlecreek Township, and Rowland of Salisbury. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren. The body of Mrs. Newman was brought to Salisbury the same day she died, by Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury mortician, and after being prepared for burial, was taken to the home where she and her son Rowland, and his daughter Frances, located some time last spring. There a short prayer service was conducted Monday, at one o'clock p.m., followed by interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, under the direction of Mortician Thomas. Following the interment, her pastor, Rev. Ira S. Monn, the officiating clergyman, conducted funeral services in St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, of which Mrs. Newman was a steadfast and faithful member from the days of her early childhood. Although the weather was extremely cold and blustery, the obsequies were largely attended, and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Meyersdale Republican, February 18, 1943
