Newman, 87, Confluence, died March 3, 2004, at Somerset Hospital. He was born Aug. 6., 1916, in Elk Lick Township, a son of the late Edward C. and Lulu (Livengood) Newman. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother Donald and infant sisters Lois and Audrey. He survived by his wife of 64 years Winifred (Lichliter) Newman; a son Buck and his wife Sarah (Coughenour) Newman of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; a granddaughter Shannon Crist and her husband Matt of Moberly, Mo.; a great-granddaughter Maggie Crist; sisters Alberta Tilly of Springs, Luann Byers of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters-in-law Emily Jane Hickson of Confluence and Ruth Newman of Grantsville, Md. Also survived by nieces and nephews. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. A lifetime member of the Salisbury American Legion, a member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren, Confluence United Methodist Church, Confluence Lions Club, Meyersdale Lodge 554 F&AM, Pittsburgh Syria Shrine and Scottish Rite Harrisburg Consistory. Along with Donald Kaufman, he was a partner in Riverside Motor Sales in Confluence from 1947 until his retirement in 1982. Friends will be received from 2 until 9 p.m. Friday at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Peter Foreman officiating.
