Niemiec, Sr., 84, of Second St, Acosta, died May 16, 2003 at home. Born Feb. 17, 1919 in Sonman, Cambria County, the son of Michael C. and Mary (Shutty) Niemiec. Preceded in death by parents; sisters Kathryn Niemiec and Anna Yokobosky; brothers, John and Frank and an infant sister Hedwig. Survived by wife of 40 years the former Rosemary (Boburchak), son Joseph M. Jr. married to Lori Turko, Acosta; grandson Nicholas J.; sister Agnes Witkowski, Niagra Falls, N.Y.; brothers Anthony and Stanley both of Acosta and numerous nieces and nephews. Former area coal miner with 35 years service. Retired from J and R Sales Inc. since 1973. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish where he had been the organist for St. John's Church for 60 years, having retired in 1998. Also a member of Central City Local 6410 UMWA. Helped to build the stone house for the Niemiec family in 1950 which is now occupied by his son Joseph and family. Enjoyed fishing, carpentry, and working the family farm. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday.
