Oakman, 84, Somerset, passed on Aug. 6, 2004, at Somerset Hospital. Born May 2, 1920, in Lincoln Township, the son of the late James and Minnie (Baer) Oakman. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jessie (Smith) Oakman in 1971; second wife, Wilma (Beltrami) Harding Oakman in 1993; son, Eugene Byrom; sisters, Dorothy Oakman and Doris Drum; and brothers, Leo, James, Harold and John Oakman. Survived by his daughter Linda, married to Craig Stinebiser and granddaughters, Jessie and Bailey, all of with whom Pappy Clyde resided in Somerset. He is also survived by children, Lorraine, married to William Mullen, Vienna, Va., Gary Harding, married to Jayne, Richmond, Va. and Terry Harding, Ferrellton. He had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brother of Donald "Yogi" Baer, married to Peggy, Somerset, Floyd and Glenn Oakman, Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Paul Oakman, Sulphur, La. He was a retired Master Sgt. in the U.S. Army with 20 years of service. He served in World War II and in Korea. He was part of the Allied "island-hopping" campaign through the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Theater, landing with assaults on Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and other islands and later fought on the Korean Peninsula. Upon retirement from the military, he was employed by NASA at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., and later worked at Gilmour Mfg. in Somerset as a shift supervisor. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Ronzil Jarvis officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park with full military honors by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
