"Bud" Ober, 84, Hooversville, passed away Oct. 8, 2004, at home. Born Nov. 30, 1919, in Haskin, Ohio, son of John B. and Carrie (Whitacre) Ober. Preceded in death by parents, brother, J. LeVan, and sister, Susan. Survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Alyce Rosey; daughter, Sandra Barkley, Berlin; grandson, Christopher O. Barkley, married to the former Michele Czuplak; and great-grandson, Max Allan Michael Barkley. World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of the Bulge. Retired supervisor of Fabrication Rate Dept. of Bethlehem Steel I.E. Dept. Charter member and past commander of Hooversville V.F.W. Post 7565. Member of Hooversville Fire Co., Somerset Lodge 358 F&AM, T.P.A., and Hooversville Historical Society. He served on the former Forbes school board. He was active in Hooversville Christian Church where he taught and was superintendent of Sunday school and served as deacon and elder. He was an avid reader, wood worker, loved music and painting with oil. He won three state championships for saxophone solos, and was a member of the Laddie Timko orchestra for many years. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hooversville. No visitation or viewing. Private service at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Gerald L. Meyers officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963.
