She was born on April 11, 1922, in Somerset, at daughter of the late J. Frank and Agnes McLaughlin Neilan. Mrs. O'Brien was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Washington. She graduated from Somerset High School; from Seton Hill College and from the Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University. A registered dietician, Mrs. O'Brien worked for many years at Washington Hospital, and also taught nutrition and diet therapy at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. O'Brien's father and brothers founded Neilan Engineers of Somerset. She was an avid golfer, formerly belonging to Washington Country Club; Nemacolin Country Club and Lone Pine Golf Club. She was a member of the Women's Western Golf Association, and served for several years as president of the Ladies' Golf Association of Nemacolin County Club. On April 24, 1948, in Somerset, she married John T. O'Brien, who survives. Mrs. O'Brien issurvived by one son, Michael T. O'Brien of Venice, Calif.; one brother,John Neilan of Sunland, Calif.; three sisters: Ruth Neilan of Somerset, Nancy Speicher of Rockwood and Gertrude Titcomb of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and James Neilan, and two sisters, Mary Neilan and Eileen Byrne. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Piatt & Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Ave., Washington. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in the Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, with Father James G. Young as celebrant. Daily American July 30, 1997 [O0035]
