O'Connor, 78, of Somerset, passed on June 19, 2002 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, in Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 10, 1924 in Jenner Township. Son of the late J. Paul and Maude (Rininger) O'Connor. Preceded in death by his wife Sally in 1990 and brother Edgar O'Connor. Survived by his daughter Penny, married to Richard Greig of Somerset, sons J.P., married to Jacqueline (DeVore) O'Connor of Somerset, and Mark, married to Judy (Frenchik) O'Connor of Evans City, and step-daughter Greta, married to Ron Frombaugh of Newville. Also survived by grandchildren: Kami, Scott, Jennifer, Shannon, Amanda, Ryan, Katie and Jason; step-grandchildren: Douglas, Susan, Rhonda, Michael, and David; and 10 great-grandchildren. Brother of Patricia Chynoweth of Davidsville, Francis O'Connor of Everett, and Donald O'Connor of Davidsville. He was a graduate of Conemaugh Township High School in 1941. He had a long career in public service which began in 1951 with election to the Conemaught Township Area School Board. In 1955 he was elected Register of Wills where he served two terms. From 1964-1968 he was a State Auditor and was elected Somerset County Commissioner in 1967, serving five terms until his retirement in 1988 to private business. He was the owner of Laurel Highlands Personal Care Home in Donegal from 1975 to the present. He was a past Somerset County Democratic Party Chairman. He was a member of the Jenner Rod and Gun Club, the New Baltimore Sportsmen's Club, the Meyersdale Elks Lodge, and numerous other social and political organizations. He was an avid supporter of baseball in the Somerset area. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Somerset. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Church, Msgr. Samuel Tomaselli Celebrant. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Somerset Dialysis Unit at 229 S.
